Not gonna lie: If I were in this I'd have seen the first video and started screaming before spouting off every Gorillaz fact I know... Just got home from my local theater. While I have no credit of being a film/documentary critic, I can confidently say, in my own opinion, that Reject False Icons was incredibly well done and very entertaining. Before seeing the movie, I was a little skeptical after seeing a few somewhat negative reviews from those who had already seen it. And while these reviews were lingering in the back of my head, they quickly dissipated moments after the film started. There I was; sitting in the local theater of my hometown surrounded by Gorillaz fans watching one of my favorite bands of all time on the big screen. I don’t know what it was, but it was an incredibly surreal moment for me. The city I grew up in my whole life had fans sitting right next to me; and, as corny as it sounds, I couldn’t help but see them as my brothers and sisters. Then I discovered the meaning of Reject False Icons. This was an opportunity for Gorillaz fans all over the world to come together for one night to celebrate the latest phase of Gorillaz. One of the criticisms I often see are those concerning how little art was featured or how almost no interviews were conducted for the film. I, on the other hand, felt that this was a wise move by Denholm Hewlett. One of Gorillaz’s core values has always been about blurring the lines between fiction and reality; being extremely serious about four cartoon characters being in a band. It’s almost like a magic trick; if you know how the trick is done, then the magic is no longer there. While some fans have a totally valid opinion that, from a documentary standpoint, it does seem shallow in terms of “behind the scenes” content; I encourage those fans to see the film from that different perspective. The concert scenes were beautifully shot. I felt completely immersed and as if I were actually at a live Gorillaz show. I couldn’t help but bob my head, sing along, and silently clap to myself after every performance. This, paired with Damon and Jamie’s endless stream of constant creativity no matter where they went, was damn inspiring. And that’s what I believe the goal of the film was: to celebrate an incredible phase of the most successful virtual band of all time and to inspire those who are experiencing this phenomenon. Once again, I’m no film expert. I’m just a normal Gorillaz fan throwing my two cents in. And of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I just wanted to share my thoughts and thankfulness that we get to live in a world where Gorillaz exists and thrives stronger than ever.

In short, the film covers the making of "Humanz" and "The Now Now" while their Humanz Tour took place during 2017 and 2018. The film itself does not have any commentary or offers any, and as such, the movie goes on in showing highlights of their tour and composing of the albums. It's really interesting to see how Damon and Jamie have worked a lot the past 20 years on Gorillaz, and if I am honest, the movie sparkled the light and made me remember why I love Gorillaz in the first place.
The band has become from a 3 man team to a full-fledged 100+ family. Gorillaz has become such a diverse band and has a criminal record of collaborations around the world. During the clips you saw while the album Humanz was made, you could see and feel the excitement of the entire team during production. They were on fire, had passion, and made the thing as good as it can be. It's a bunch of people working on new projects, while the hyperrealistic nature of the 4 characters is always put first. The band is one of the best that are out there and just started after 2 people sat on a couch and said "Let's make a band" intending to criticise the music industry with each of the characters resembling an oversaturation of a tribe.
The film included a lot of live performances from various albums and paid tribute to Ibrahim Ferrer (Latin Simone, also known for Buena Vista Social Club in Kuba. Bobby Womack (Stylo) which was one of the best moments in the film. It showed respects to so many talented people, everyone was treated equally and shown in the film at least thrice. There were a lot of unique artists being on stage and behind the scenes.
The film had some honourable mentions, including:

• Damon sneezing on-stage, never happened to him once.
• Him visiting a musical group which made their instruments out of reusable material, and got handed a custom made violin
• Him screaming into the camera like a madman and playing a banana like a saxophone afterwards
• The Now Now took only 5 weeks and was recorded during the break of the Humanz tour

As of their tour, they have performed 96 times over 2 years and played music as high as over a week worth.
Reject False Icons is a documentary which shows character, charm, and love for the band we know.
